Protests are intensifying in Hong Kong this week over Beijing-led plans to force Hong Kong students to study a curriculum that glorifies the Chinese Communist Party, as thousands of protestors gathered in front of the city's legislature to support 10 students and retirees who have been engaged in a hunger strike against the plan since Saturday.

China's plans to introduce "Moral and National Education" in Hong Kong are wildly unpopular among the city's residents. The curriculum includes a 34-page book titled "The China Model" that describes the Communist Party as "progressive, selfless and united" and skips important but embarrassing events like the Tiananmen Square crackdown. Protestors say the pro-Beijing lessons are an attempt to "brainwash" young Hong Kong students to make them have a positive view of China's one-party government.

On Monday 40,000 protestors gathered outside Hong Kong government headquarters before a 5pm deadline for the government to scrap the new lessons. In July 90,000 Hong Kong residents protested the plan in July after guidelines for the new lessons were made public. The patriotism lessons will be introduced this semester on a voluntary basis and become mandatory in 2015.

@Bruce Lee LOL! Yeah, I agree that we are from the Mainland bloodlines as HK citizens,

but the real problem is that this "education" is like China on makeup, trying to cover up their past mistakes and giving children info about a beautiful country with no flaws! This is complete bullshit, screw this kind of education!
