The early days of Sailrocket from the model trials to the build to sailing at Weymouth Speed Week in 2004 where we first hit 31 knots. We are now trialling with the solid wing sail.

  • The outrigger didn't lift out on the full size boat like it did on the scale model. Why not?

  • @deezynar it is only meant to fly as we hit top speed... it is not adjustable from the cockpit so if it did fly earlier... it would end up just flying higher and higher as we went faster... a bit like the model. If you look at our last and fastest runs ... type in something like "vestas sailrocket the trials" you will see that the pod begins to fly nicely once over 50 knots.

    Cheers, Paul.

  • Someones gotta do the trail blazing. Sailing is such a wonderful medium so ripe for development. Look at the variety of craft currently going for the record. Windsurfers, kite surfers, 60' foiling trimarans, Macquarie Innovations and ourselves. Have you ever seen a race with such diversity? Well one that's not a Saturday morning cartoon anyway!

Thanks for the reply. I assume the outrigger intentionally comes out of the water to reduce drag, that's why I asked. You have a fast boat and deserve to be proud. All the best to you.

  • Excellent work guys! Am looking forward to the final version with bugs all ironed out. Love the assymetrical design and kite wing. Any hydrofoil thing under the smaller hull?

  • Paul - been follwing your adventure. My Rave foiler will never reach that speed - but I've hit 30 and know the feeling. I posted a foiling video of my Rave if you'd like to see it. Best of luck hitting the 50kts barrier! Keep the pointy stick pointing to the sky (or in your case - the wing).

  • dónde compro uno acá en Chile???

  • Word ! Sailing has for too long been dominated by off-shore-camping. It's time to kick some ass. We used to be the "young turks" crashing through the line of boats that left harbour at hightide in a Hobie 21.

And with carbonfibre we can do so much more ... keap up the good work !

  • good show!posibilities for small 1-2 person cruiser?
