"Put A Lid On It," by The Squirrel Nut Zippers.

Lyrics:

Put a lid on it
What's that you say?
Put a lid on it
Oh man, no way
Put a lid down on it, and everything will be all right.
Put a lid on it
Don't hand me that
Put a lid on it
I'm all right, Jack
Put a lid down on it, before somebody starts a fight.

Say, every time I turn it loose you cats Come down and cook my goose
When I start I just can't stop
But if you keep this up you're gonna blow your top!
Put a lid on it
Too late this time
Put a lid on it
I've got to get what's mine
Put a lid down on it, and everything will be all right.

Well, grab your drink and clear a space I think it's time to torch this place
Now the girl's in overdrive
But some of your pals want to stay alive!
I'll put a lid on it
I'll put a lid down on it
Save it for another night

  • Anyone else hear this song on Sesame Street?

  • @greenjeansmjr finger snapping and feet tapping!

  • This is a great song, but the art direction for the video is all off. The costume person really did a hash job. There are clothes/costumes from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. It's totally incongruous.

  • @VanHowle thats where i first heard this song haha. great movie. great band.

  • @citizenzombie But I read an interview where she said her style came naturally, she really had never listened to BHolliday when she started singing. At least that's what she said.

  • @jordano666 Karen Whalen

  • and whos the lady that sings!?

  • I am a die-hard metal and hard rock fan. But these guys are such talented musicians, that I can't help but love almost everything they've done. Especially this tune.

    Soooooo swingin'.

  • @mccheese0 Yeah, I like Billie Holiday too. But the fact that this girl can do a passable Billie Holiday puts her way up in a class by herself. Well her and (considerably higher) Billie..

  • @SpookySpookers Being born in 96 and remembering 96 are two completely different things boy.
