The Big Bang Theory - If scientific theories were like religions

A funny but thought-provoking scene from The Big Bang Theory Season 2 Episode 2 (The Codpiece Topology). In this scene, Leonard, Sheldon and Leslie get into an argument on whether Loop Quantum Gravity theory or String Theory is the acceptable theory.

The point to note is what happens after Leslie asks Leonard how they will raise their children. Her reaction to his answer ("Wait till they're old enough and let them choose their own theory.") is very typical of a religious parent: "We can't let them choose, Leonard, they're children."

Leslie leaves with the final word that it's a deal-breaker to be expected of her to allow her children choose their own theory rather than unquestionably accept Loop Quantum Theory, the only theory which their mother believes to be correct. That sounds a lot like religion.

Disclaimer: The show is mocking the dedication of religious parents to ensuring their children does not have a choice and always follows the religion of the parents. It is not suggesting that science or scientific theories work like religion. On the contrary, science is fully open to change and renewal. Thankfully :)

This is how I feel when atheist and theist argue. It is hard to be agnostic. Atheist kind of lean on like a clue saying we share the same heart while theist have a love hate relationship with us. They love when we try to push the atheist away while they hate when we don't submit to their god/s...
