Poughkeepsie, NY (Downtown 1960)

Upon sifting through my films to upload on YouTube, I came across a short 30 second segment of 35mm film that was shot in my hometown of Poughkeepsie, NY. (Located about 75 miles North of New York City.)
The film begins at the Soldiers Memorial Fountain. A police car zooms around a corner by the park. Next you'll see the same car as it travels North on Market Street (old Route 9) and turns onto Main Street, heading East.
Oldtimers will remember this view and later residents will see how it looked before Main Street was filled in as a plaza (since restored). A short look back at the city from nearly 50 years ago.

It was OK back then. Like most young guys, we hung out on the street corners. I've been in Florida for 35 years & doubt I could go back. All things change.

route of the car: curved around the Soldiers Fountain near the YMCA and back onto Market St, past the Adriance Library all the way to the corner of Market and Main where a right turn was made onto Main going east. SS Kresgees and Woolworth's 10 cent stores were there then but have long vanished.
