CT's Soundtrack was done by both Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobuo Uematsu. Primarily by Mr. Mitsuda, but Uematsu had some obvious songs in there. The race scene was one of his for instance.

CT's soundtrack was done by Yasunori Mitsuda, not Uematsu...both are amazing composers, though.

Chrono Trigger's music never really had lyrics, though that shouldn't stop some imaginative musicians/lyricists out there from creating some.
Though stranger things have happened in the Land of the Rising Sun, so who knows, they might've re-released the soundtrack with accompanying vocals like they did on this one Street Fighter 2 remix CD that I heard once. It was awkward, but cool. Just search in Google for "Street Fighter 2 Ken Song Lyrics."

what is that instrument? and what did Nobou think

I'm not sure what the instrument is called. I tried looking through Google for all kinds of "piano/keyboard" and "flute/wind instrument" combinations to no avail.
As for Nobuo, he was deeply flattered and had a smile from ear to ear. He was very surprised that the Spoony Bards went through all that trouble to perform in front of him.
The moment was magical if you grew up playing games that Nobuo composed musically.
