painting a mini in the union jack - Had a few comments on why we used spray cans, this car was for a charity rally from the UK to Gambia in Africa, so it wasn't really meant to be a long lasting finish, but thanks for all the comments, If you want more info on the rally and building the car http://african-italianjob2006.blogspot.com/index.html and if you every find yourself in the Gambia, and you see a union jack mini, tell it's new owner I said hi!
you will have to wait till 2009 for our next creation, it will be going london to mongolia, it will be mini based, and it will be more than just a paint job!

  • for tin cans... must admit turned out to be pretty shiny :) I painted my mazda bubble back.... turned out shit eheheh

  • yeah equally it could have turned into a real mess. We roughed up the old paint a little first to aid the finish! I can say having driven the car through the sahara desert, most of the front facing paint work was sand blasted back to the original white!

  • all that paint its a good thing u guys had masks xD

  • yeah the protective qualities of lifting your t-shirt over your nose are well know :P we kept opening the door to breath but it was about -3 outside!

  • what paint did u use

  • cheap spray paint from wilkinsons! nothing exotic whole lot cost £40

  • so you bought normal spray cans, but wouldn't spray paint go really rough

  • every time i see one of these cars i want one more

  • that looks wicked mate well dne

  • Turned out amazingly well, do you have a guesstimate about how long such a paint job would last?

  • How much was the car? Im gonna get one if its cheap enough for me and do up. Can you give me some tips where to get a fairly good mini so i can restore it. I want something which is a challenge so i don't mind minor rust and need some TLC. Thanks :)

  • It was cheap (and very rusty) and we know mini's inside out so they are easy to fix for us
