Roland White plays Soldier's Joy on mandolin, accompanied by Diane Bouska on guitar.
Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 would have been Bill Monroe's 98th birthday and Roland is posting this as a fond remembrance of Bill. This version contains some Monroe, some of Dad's (Eric White, Sr.) fiddling, and plenty of pure Roland. Recorded Sept. 7, 2009, Nashville, TN. (couple of flubs, sorry, we don't do a lot of takes!) Check out those critters crawling around on the fingerboard. -DB

Fantastic tune played by a real master musician.I couldn`t help but notice that Martin D-28 guitar laying on the couch. It looks like an exact copy of Roland`s late great brother Clarence`s Martin that now belongs to Tony Rice.(No logo on headstock, large sound hole,no dots on fretboard, and tortoise-shell pick guard).Cool!

This is one of my favorite tunes played by one of my favorite players and I find this a nice camera angle to see both hands well.

@4:03 "There's a few mistakes in there but I'm going to leave them. You know...I mean, everybody makes mistakes." This great attitude is probably one of the reasons Mr White has made it so far. Inspirational.

Roland White is by far the purest, cleanest, and tastiest bluegrass mandolin player today and hopefully for a long time to come.---cudos
