No member of the Hugo Chavez Book Club (not even President Obama) can truly be prepared to discuss Eduardo Galeano's 'Open Veins of Latin America' without viewing Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez' interview with Mr. Galeano from May 19th, 2006 on Democracy Now.

  • i would like everybody to see and understand the ideas expressed on this interview.

    LONG LIVE TO EDUARDO GALEANO.

  • Regarding boeing's comment on "human nature" i strongly disagree, since the only "human nature" in humans is the lowest animal instincts, the rest is conditioning. Human nature theories are accountable to religion and has nothing to do with preserving cultures and nationalities, which is not bad, in view every country in Latam has its own identity, which is ELEMENTARY for development. ALBA, MERCOSUR, and UNASUR is the idea of not having borders and having REAL free trade between our nations.

  • I agree.

UNASUR will finally bring sustainable growth to Latin America as as we are seeing today with Brazil and the other nations. Kudos to Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff for taking a leadership role in her proposal during Sep 2011 UN meeting to bailout out the EURO

And yes Brazil should be a UN Security Council PERMANENT member, which in my view is better fit given its squeaky-clean track record against humanity, in every possible way imaginable, unlike Russia, China, France, UK and USA.

  • Guns need wars, wars need alibis' and alibi's need demons. Love this quote!

  • Excelente Galeano.. no me canso de decirlo!

  • I hope you don't demonize this movement for independence, because US media has done everything in their hands to demonize it and criminalize them, their leaders, and masses of people involved

(Hopefully, your not mentioning it is not due to the impact mainstream media outlets had on you, since I find hard to ignore it).

  • We are trying to but we keep being oppressed, 500 years ago by the Spanish, now by the US (see the latest coup in Honduras). Slavery has adopted new faces since the industrial revolution and now with "free" market, but it is in principle the same. Every time the workers of a land fight for rights, state terrorism is unleashed with the support of US. Chavez and the ALBA countries are working on these actions to make a better world for their populations and it is not done solely on "writing".

  • you are right when you say that latin america should show the way to a better world. look for this guy: PINO SOLANAS. you can see his documentaries films.

  • action means REVOLUTION in south america

  • I again have to agree with you on this. However, I don't understand what do you mean by Italy as a great example, going back where it was 80 years ago. Please, explain and thanks for the insight.
