In my last video, Bertie was grumpy. He gets like that. Don't be fooled by Ziggi, she might get bullied in that clip, but as you'll see here, she's quite happy I hope/think!

  • Hi you'r awesome:X your birds are happy with a master like you:) I have a yellow kakariki but she is scaried...when i approach she run.. i dont know what i need to do:( i speak with her but no effect. I leave Rita(her) to fly arround in my room and she likes that:) I've bout her 5 day's ago...can you tell me what i can do to make her listening and don't be scared ?:(

  • You have to give it time. It took months for Bertie to come to us. Just give it time, don't scare Rita and then bit by bit you build trust. Ours were always frightened a little every time we opened the cage, but the fear is natural and then the trust kicks in... then they will let you hold etc... Our Bertie if you 'hold' him would still bite even at this point, they can crack a walnut so be careful!!!

  • I can see from your video you show your kakarikis lots of attention and love this can be seen how they act with you both. They make wonderful pets we have a male and after 4 weeks of having him he talks my daughter adores ours we also give it plenty of quality time and let it out the cage frequently!

    Well done to you!

  • Thanks

  • bought two males and they are great together. first they bite alot but i let them fly around my room and get comfortable with a couple provoked flights, having them four days now they no longer bite and fly to various parts of the room , i come in the room and sing to them and they start to pitter patter back and forth across the gap between my closet and roof and take flights at will the guy bought them off of told me they love to fly and ive allowed them to do so and are more tame

  • Hi Your kakariki's Are So Cutee .. i also have a kakariki but she isnt tame and is scared of me can you tell me how you tamed your kakariki's Pleasee ?

  • Hi Your Birds Are so Tame And Cutee I Have A Kakariki To But She aint tame Can You Tell How You Got Your Birds As Tame As That Please :)

  • They are certainly not easy to tame, we just at first put him on the floor to run around. To hold him we used a light towl over him and picked him up in that (liek picking up a baby out of the bath) He bit us quite a bit to start but eventually he calmed down and then by a couple of months he'd come to our hand. They were always scrared a little, but keep at it, they do tame but it's hard graft!!!

  • any tips for tameing my kakariki? i havnt realy tryed anything, when i first bought them from a pet shop they were very scared of anything that moved! 1 flew away! a big mistake and the other got over it pretty quickly, he comes up to me and lands on me and even trys stealing my food! but if i go to him he shits himself and flys away!! is so annoying watching ur videos of tame kaks! i was told by the pet shop they are easy to tame but the vet said they are not!!! any tips anyone?
