A Warning from the Ghost of Christmas .wmv

Just before he departed the company of Ebenezer Scrooge, the Ghost of Christmas Present revealed two filthy, half-starved children cowering beneath his robe.

"Spirit, are they yours?" Scrooge asked.

"No, they are man's," replied the ghost. "This boy is ignorance. This girl is want. Beware of both of them, but most of all, beware the boy - for on his forehead I see that written which is doom, unless the writing is erased. If you deny him, slander those who tell others about him, admit he exists but do nothing about it, then doom will engulf you all."

This is just stunning. Exactly as Dickens wrote- he was the great social reformer of his day, and a friend of the poor. He lived in workhouses as a poor boy, and in debtors prison with his parents. he had little education yet went on to become arguably the greatest English writer since Shakespeare.

He often left this bit out when giving readings of Christmas Carol. This brilliant scene brings back the message that Dickens intended.
