I was apprehensive about having extensions, I thought they might ruin my hair and look really fake! However, they turned out great. So don't be scared, hair extensions aren't as hard to care for or style as you might think! They are a committment, as you can't take them out at the end of the day like clip ins and you need to brush your hair a lot more often to prevent tangles!

However, you don't need any special shampoos/conditioners but you will need a good brush (I use the Balmain Brush for extensions, available from Sallys)

I got my extensions from http://www.americandreamextensions.com for a reasonable price of £1 per extension. I have tried to make sure that the extensions I buy are ethically sourced as I have heard horror stories that children in developing countries are exploited for their hair to be harvested and I do not advocate this.

The really expensive part of getting extensions is getting someone qualified and that you trust to put them in and take them out! I use my stylist who is qualified and she has not ruined my hair at all.

You should also do an allergy test for the glue used in case you have a reaction, which can be serious. A good stylist should suggest this, otherwise make sure you do it for your own peace of mind.

Any questions, leave me a comment on this video and I'll try to answer them, be sure to look at all the comments in case I have answered it already, as I won't be able to answer a repeated question!

thanks for watching!

  • how do you sleep with the extensions??

  • @Vikckie plat your hair loosely so it's comfortable to sleep on.

  • Question: can you accidentally brush them out? How easy do they tangle?? Can you dye them? Starighten them? Hopefully this isnt rude to ask but around how much did they cost?

    Thanks for the video :)

  • @HannahHeartStruck They cost about £1 each and you need about 150 to do a whole head of hair. You shouldn't be able to brush them out without a lot of pain as they are bonded to your own hair. Some do come out, that's natural and some come out as they grow out and loosen. I don't know what the dye would do the bonds, so ask a stylist for advice.

  • @oxfordjasmine thank you :)

The brush you mentioned though, isnt that a soft brissled brush? And doesnt that make hair frizz? My last question is glue vs woven in? (Sorry for all the questions) But thank you for all your help :)

  • @HannahHeartStruck The Balmain extension brush is not soft bristled at all, it just has two different lengths of bristle so that it doesn't catch the glue and pull on it. I haven't had woven in extensions but I have heard that although they don't have any glue, your own hair is very tightly braided which can put considerable stress on the roots.

  • i just got my hair extensions from salon , went for just the length but came bk with a full head costing me £455!!! anyway my hair was black but dyed red and they didnt have the right colour and looked quite fake so i had to get another app to dye which cost me an extra £80, as far as i know a few hairs did come out during the process but nothing major whilst having it dyed.....although i have been advised to use ''racoon'' shampoo and conditioner £15 a bottle which are designed 4 extensions.

  • Great stuff...will give it a try asap!!!

  • i'm considering getting professionally done hair extensions which are fusion (glue in) bonds. I have shoulder length hair now, and want to about my bust. My question is: I'm not actually too too into hair care, like I do not use dry shampoos or anything, I normally shower and the like, apply leave in conditioner, and that's it. If I want to get hair extensions, should I wait until I'm better prepared, have more experience with my hair, or..? Long comment!

  • how much did it cost

  • real nice hair :)

  • when you wash it doesnt it loosen up the glue?

  • Happy Anniversary, OxfordJasmine! xo I would love to try out hair extensions some day. They just look fantastic on other people! :)
