  • @lycanzen Yeah, I found in my Aikido training, that while the stuff looks great in class or even in a demonstration, it doesn't have a lot of real world applications unless you train for that. Aikido can be useful, but I think it's more about the concepts rather than getting good at a throw or a defense.. Silat was much more practical and took a realistic approach to being attacked with hands or weapons. Nothing flashy, nothing has to be perfect.. when you get attacked, get in, do damage.

  • Excellent video.. I've been a long time student of Aikido and Pencak Silat.. I think I probably took a lot more realism from Silat, simple because of the subject matter in this video. I've been in fights and they never play out beat for beat like you see in a martial arts class. Real combat is fast, violent and unpredictable, so you need quick, efficient responses that get in fast and do damage. Thanks for a great video expressing the reality of combat!

  • Sucks to be the assistant for this guy.

  • This is good stuff. I'm a martial artist. Trained in various styles. Most of it is just fitness taught by people who have never dealt with real violence. Cages and competitions don't count. I've left schools knowing how poorly the techniques translate. Never hesitate to ask why something is important. Tradition is a shit answer unless you're a historian.

  • SOoooo where can you go to learn from this guy?

  • Great stuff and realistic..it looks funny BUT the reality is very close ...

  • This s part of a seminar he was teaching so it is in context to the drill they were doing, he wasn't covering all kinds of violent attacks like muggings, rapes or murder attempts, he was going over the ego, in your face type of everyday attacks.

  • While I TOTALLY agree with what you're saying, i must say that all the 'polite' Martial Arts grabs & stuff we learn is good basics for the more advanced attacks you showed here. I believe that having good technique on the more traditional stuff of fighting and defense will enable you to think around the real situation faster and have a real good know-how on how to actually ADAPT to the situation, no matter how brutal it is.

Apart from that, you sir, are one awesome instructor! =D

  • I agree that emotions fuel Alpha Male type attacks, but they do not fuel most Predatory attacks like muggings. Muggings are usually done because they want something like a wallet or money. They are after that prize. The attack is not personal or emotional. But otherwise, yeah, love Rich's stuff. Its great for assault and fight situations.

  • Good common sense stuff
