Chapter 2


"C'mon, guys! I haven't even had breakfast yet," Joe complained.

"Then, what better way to start the day than with a cup of Starbucks coffee?" Kevin grinned.

"What are you, their campaign manager?" Joe said, "Look, guys, can't we just go home or something?"

"No, Joe," Nick shook his head, "Not until we find you a girl."

The three entered the coffee shop, which could be described as... "busy."

"So, Joe, see anyone you like?" Kevin asked.

Joe looked around. "Well, between the old lady and the brunette over there, I think I prefer the brunette."

"So, Nick, what do you think?" Kevin asked as the group bunched together.

The brunette had long hair that went below her shoulders. She had a book in her hands and a frappe on the table.

"Looks like the shy type," Nick replied, "Don't worry, Joe, this should be a snap."

"She is kinda pretty..." Joe looked at her.

"Then talk to her!" the two pushed.

"Geez... pushy..." he mumbled as he walked over.

"Wait, dude!" Kevin stopped him, "Take this." He handed him a vanilla frappe.

"Great, in exchange for not having breakfast, at least I have my favorite Starbucks drink..." Joe grumbled.

Joe walked over to the table,

"Hey, there."

"Hey," she said, not looking up.

"Is anyone sitting here?"

"Nope."

"May I?"

"Nope."

Joe looked at his two companions worriedly. They both, in unison, mouthed, "SIT DOWN!"

"Um, hi. I'm Joe," he greeted.

"Hi. I don't really care," the girl said.

Joe looked back at his friends. They mouthed, "TALK TO HER."

"So... What's your name?"

"Demi Lovato," she looked up, "You probably haven't heard that name before." She looked down to read her book.

"So..." Joe scratched the back of his head, "You come here often?"

"Yeah, sure. Listen, I've got to go. Bye." She closed her book, got her drink, and walked out the door.

Joe stomped back to Kevin and Nick,

"'She looks like the shy type?''Don't worry, this should be a snap?' Yeah, right, guys." Joe crossed his arms, waiting for them to make up some reason why he shouldn't give up or feel bad or something. But silence hung in the air. "G-guys...?"

"That's it..." Nick balled his hands into fists.

"That girl is going DOWN!" Kevin screamed into the sky.

"Guys, are you OK?" Joe inched farther away from the two.

"Nobody, I repeat: NOBODY turns down Joe!" Kevin said.

"We're taking you to the mall!" The two pulled him out of the store.

"WHY?"

"You'll see, you'll see..."
