Rayman Game Sample - Sega Saturn

Absolutely beautiful game. As Rayman, you go around gathering electoons and stopping the evil Mr. Dark while trying to reclaim the Great Protoon. The Great Protoon maintains the balance and the harmony of the world, so you know it's vital to get it back. Betilla the Fairy tried to stop Mr. Dark but was defeated. However, she'll give Rayman new powers as he progresses through the game.

The gameplay isn't so different from other games in and of itself. Rayman has standard abilities like punching, floating, climbing, etc. What makes this game stand out is the alluring soundtrack and absolutely stunning visuals. The environments are masterfully done and a work of art, and every single character sports cartoony animations and fluid motions. Not only was it phenomenal for the time, but the game's beauty stands the test of time. There are lots of two-dimensional games out now that don't quite capture the immense detail found in this old game from the mid-nineties. This game is also very challenging! Do not be fooled by its looks, as it's not an easy game by any stretch of the imagination. Some levels are agonizing, but this is one of the games that makes you come back for more. Enjoy.

This is why the Saturn is a 2D powerhouse; the Saturn version of the first Rayman looks and sounds beautiful. Apart from a DSi re-release, we need a new Rayman game... that doesn't have anything to do with those DAMN Raving Rabbids!

I liked the character Mr.Dark as you really don't know anything about this guy other than the fact that 1) He has a cool cloak and hat. and 2) His eyes and hands were visible much like The Octopus from the Spirit . I want more Mr.Dark oh so badly.

Character worship aside, it was amazing when it came out on Saturn and other platforms and I'd like to see another Rayman adventure

This + Abes Oddword were the ONES for me when I was younger.. I'm 16 now, we DEFINITELY need a version of the original Rayman for PS3 or Wii or XBOX, something!
