Every year hundreds of thousands of baby seals get slaughtered for their fur. The Canadian government has been trying to keep this quiet, so they can continue this unnecessary slaughter. We are trying to educate people as to what is going on and do everything we can to stop them from continuing to slaughter these beautiful and innocent animals. You can learn how to help by visiting PETA.org and SEASHEPHERD.org.

  • What do you people care if there are those of us out there that love animals and want to keep them out of harms way? I mean really, no one is personally attacking YOU. So, get over yourselves!

  • In our parts of the world ,in todays society, we don't need to hunt to survive now do we? If your not hunting out of the means to survive then your doing it for a sport-out of enjoyment. Yes, that is wrong, for too many reasons to list.

  • Right, I'm a hypocrite for standing up for something I believe in, which is animal welfare. What do you stand up for? Why does it bother you so much that some people care enough about something and speak up about it?

  • How many animals has PETA killed?

  • The Inuit have been hunting and killing seals for a living for hundreds of years, and Peta is only now decieding that they are going to protest against this.

Peta should really butt out of such matters, stupid hypocrits

  • not a problem were all human, it's usually only the people who can't argue there point effectivly that attack spelling.

  • Several improvements have been made since 1987 concerning kill methodology, It's still not 100% humane but it is a work in progress. Canadian Conservation is working with vetrinary groups and ICES to find sustainable quotas and to enforce humane kill legislation. since 2001 the use of the "hakapik" has dropped dramatically to 15% of all kills.(firearms are the most common) these policies are enforced by the DFO and carry some severe penalties. A big problem is the DFO is spread too thin imo.

  • Please excuse my spelling errors! I meant to type "use" not us, and any others that are there!

  • Is there a way you could speak with them on taking the cruelty out of the overpopulation control method they choose to us? The grim necessity of controlling the population of seal isn't the "grim" of it. Its the beating them, hooking & skinning them alive while others fall into the sea injured, it's just a bad unorganized way of dealing with this issue. And it's been going on for decades. I can never make excuses for this kind of inhumanity.

  • Thank you for the response, I appreciate your candor and the fact that our opinions differ on this issue, however critical thinking and debate are freedoms both our great nations employ. I feel its my moral obligation to research both sides of an issue and openly criticize any hypocricy. Please note that I am in no way accusing you of anything, rather discussing the true intent of Canadian conservation officials. I stand by my statement that culling harp seal overpopulation is a grim necessity.
