Platoon,full metal jacket,the deer hunter - apocalypse now.
Its an epic movie yes.. But the others deal more directly with the war and it's impact. . AN (apart from the stuff with Robert Duvall) is about Sheen finding what is left of Brando.. It's not really about the war.

Apocalypse Now is the best.
It took 2 years to complete, was made by guys who actually went to Vietnam, Coppola put his private money on the line to finance it, you can see Laurence Fishburne dancing to Satisfaction and even the Martin Sheens blood when he hits the mirror is real.
Just 3 hours and 23 minutes of epis awesomeness.
