Being a fan of both Jet Li and Jason Statham, I was real excited for this opportunity, though I honestly have to say that if Cory Yuen wanted to he could've made this fight scene much better.
Jet Li uses a style of fighting reminiscent of the one he recently used in "Danny The Dog" (known as "Unleashed" in the U.S), which focuses more on aggression, brutality and effectiveness rather than showy, flashy, wushu acrobat tricks.
In contrast, Jason Statham seems to have been allowed the same form of quick-on-the-draw, improvisational combat groove that he made famous in the two "Transporter" movies.
The reason behind the much shorter and more simplistic fight scenes throughout the movie is because Cory Yuen wanted to capture a sense of realism. While his stuff in the "Transporter" franchise was awesome, it was admittedly unrealistic (dispatch crooks with guns using a firehose?!? C'mon...), so this is kind of a step in the right direction. While less entertaining to a certain standpoint, it did allow for there to be a larger quantity of fight scenes throughout.

Actually this was kind of the idea. Li n Statham wanted a film whit more realistic fights. 4 me it was kind of cool 2 see this kind of fights but I understand those who didnt like. A realistic fight scene totally lacks choreography n aestethic issues.
