Yeah, ST: VI was released in 1991. TNG was already in its 5th-6th season.

Capt Kirk's outro line was meant to be for the crew of the USS Enterprise - B not for TNG
-
@Dragblacker the crew gets decommissioned not the ship !
-
@DBro65 That also harkens back to his line in STII about "feeling young". He was a kid that never wanted to grow up (stay a starship captain rather than take the admiral promotion that everyone said was a mistake).
-
VERY well done.
-
@Dragblacker The Enterprise-A was a rush-job, full of glitches and bugs, and was originally never intended, only built due to the destruction of the Enterprise in STIII. If the original hadn't been destroyed, it still probably would've been decommissioned about the same time.
-
Also remember the Enterprise-A was heavily damaged during the battle in the movie. Maybe it was being decommissioned because it would be too difficult or expensive to repair completely. The original Enterprise was also going to be decommissioned after the battle with Khan, even though it had undergone a major refit and upgrade in the first movie just a few years earlier. Maybe the same deal there.

I love the "Peter Pan" line Kirk uses. So appropriate... "2nd star to the right and straight on 'til morning."
-
@TazG2000 I always assumed that about the Enterprise- A, Its Refitted Constitution class so I always thought it was just re-named for Kirk and his crew for what they did in the voyager home... so it probably older then what's stated
-
loada shite!!
-
Go To Hell!
-
@TazG2000 The U.S.S. Yorktown was another Constitution class starship that was renamed to U.S.S. Enterprise at the end of ST4. It was given back to Captain James T. Kirk and crew. It had already been in service for a few years.
-
I believe there could be no better timing than the match up when Kirk says the monologue, and when the Enterprise D appears.
-
@Dragblacker They weren't scrapping the ship, just replacing it with a new crew.
-
@Dragblacker I always thought it was only about the crew and not about the ship...
-
@TazG2000 renamed yes, older no ...
-
@TazG2000 According to Gene Roddenberry, TNG Technical Manual and Michael Okuda, the TOS Constitution-class USS Yorktown was the Enterprise-A. They upgrade her and, after what Kirk and his crew did in STIV, renamed to Enterprise. The upgrade was already done in STIV, so that is why she was ready to leave Spacedock in the end.
-
"If I were human, I believe my response would be, 'Go to hell.' If I were human." Might be the best line in the entire Trek film franchise.
-
@TazG2000 I believe it was the USS Yorktown that got refit into Enterprise-A
-
EXCELENT!!!
-
One of my all time favorite startrek movies. I loved and hated the ending, because I knew it was the last of the original crew being together.
-
@TazG2000 yeah the enterprise A was actually the recently refitted USS Yorktown, she was renamed in honor of the Enterprise
-
@PKP405 I know. The feeling that it would finally be over, the adventures of the original crew were done, after 25 years.
Of course, Nimoy would still play Spock many times after this, but still... it was the last time they really were all together.
How could the Enterprise-A be decommissioned if just came out in ST 4? How much time passed between 4 and 6?

@Dragblacker ST6 takes place 7 years after ST4

@Dragblacker Apparently, the Enterprise-A was supposed to be an older ship that was upgraded and renamed, but this was never actually mentioned in any of the movies

woulda madea good promotion at the end of the acutal film s that TSO fans could get to know of hte existance of TNG tv series before its 1st epidee launched and it be too late
Charmingwizkidclone 3 years ago
TNG was already a few seasons in by the time this movie was made, that line was deliberately referring to TNG and marking the end of TOS-related movies
