Actor Jeremy Piven appeared on the January 15, 2009 edition of Good Morning America to explain his departure from the Broadway production of Speed the Plow, a decision he attributed to mercury poisoning from fish. The following is an official response from the National Fisheries Institute challenging the veracity of Piven's claims.

  • do u really need to stop the video ever 5 fucking seconds its only a 5 min long video

  • it sucks that you stop it for us.

  • Isn't "fatigued" the Hollywood way of saying "addicted to cocaine?" But no, it's Mercury. (joking, joking...sorta...)

  • It's now 2010!!!

We have an update for you...and it's going to blow you away. Click on our name and see what's happened since you posted this video on Jeremy Piven.

  • This is completely untrue that there is "no public health concern about Mercury in Japan." There's a lot of concern. See "The Cove." And we're probably all getting more than we should have in our own seafood as we continue to poison the oceans.

  • I am appalled at the comments on the video. From a child of a mercury poisoned mother (who got it from SILVER FILLINGS in her mouth but stopped eating all fish after she realized the problem), I truly believe in Mr. Piven. It doesn't affect everyone the same way, and my poor mom was subjected to levels of mercury nobody should deal with for most of her life, childhood through adulthood. She still gets ridiculed by mainstream doctors as a quack. Up yours til your caretaker gets sick with this

  • ABC news censors comments, so I'll say it here: Piven is full of it, and everyone in the New York theatre community knows it. He just wanted out of the show, and that's disgusting. He is not a theatre professional, and I have no repsect for him whatsoever.

  • HAHAHA I love this.

  • Blah, blah, blah, what a bunch of BS. I am sorry, this guy just comes across as a whiny weirdo. I usually eat fish EVERY DAY, I love it. The risks of elevated mercury from eating fish are hypothetical. The pros of fish, especially fatty fish with high omega 3, clearly outweigh the HYPOTHETICAL risks. Omega three is so good for the brain, joints, vasculature, heart and a lot of other stuff. Americans are now afraid to eat it because of the Vegan creeps. Too many Americans have become Sheeple.

  • The body does not easily absorb pure Mercury, You could swallow a small amount of pure Mercury, and it would pass straight through your system.
