O Parvardigar is the common name of a prayer composed by Meher Baba, sometimes called the Master's Prayer or the Universal Prayer. It is also a song and album by Pete Townshend.

Meher Baba wrote the prayer at Dehradun in August 1953 and made it public on September 13, 1953.Near the end of January, 1968 (almost exactly one year before his death) Meher Baba dictated a circular to his followers to recite the O Parvardigar Prayer and the Prayer of Repentance each day until March 25, 1968.On February 21 of that year he issued a second circular requesting that the prayers be continued until May 21, 1968.

  • In all that's hidden to our eyes, and all we see.

    All- merciful...

Thanks for posting a song I've loved since I got Pete's solo album. Just a couple of problems with the transcription. I suspect some were taken from another translation, and are just as valid - but not what Pete sings.

  • Thanks and Im glad you liked the video.

And yes you are right. There are a few words in the video that differ from what Pete is singing. I thought about correcting them, but because there are very few words that differ from the transcript I have, I just let it go.

  • When I finally got to meet Pete in 1985, I had more questions about his songs for The Who than anything else. But, when I stepped up to him, I asked him about Baba. We spent the entire 20 minute conversation on Baba, spirituality and nothing else.

As a 19 year old (Pete was 40), I had trouble wrapping my head around what he was conveying. Now, at 43, I have only made slight progress.

  • PLEASE CORRECT THE MISTAKES. ONLY This would honor the words...

  • Dude, you made Youtube much better by posting this 3 years ago !! ^____^

  • Parts of this sound like Saint Thomas Aquinas "Prayer for the virtues"...like when I read the Koran and thought, this sounds like the Bible...then I found out later that Muslims know and admit that....Jesus is the source of all truth and beauty and I see truth and beauty in this...

  • @mugwamp4

Sure if it's no bother, lots of us in here would appreciate it. I have a couple of them coming back from memory but not all. Thanks
