In May 2008, the Sunday Times exposed the largest greyhound breeder in Great Britain Charles Pickering selling puppies which would not chase or proved too slow to Liverpool University for research and dissection.

Greyt Exploitations submitted a Freedom Of Information request to the university to ascertain the number of pups involved and the source of funding.

In their response, the university divulged some very sensitive information - clearly unaware of how damaging it would be for the greyhound racing industry.

In total 62 greyhounds were used at the university, 16 donated by their owners but also a further 46 that had been destroyed by the track vet at Manchesters Belle Vue stadium.

Tragically, of the 46 dogs destroyed at Belle Vue, 39 had sustained racing injuries, the vast majority minor but all were deemed uneconomical to treat. Similarly, 7 dogs were deemed 'uneconomical' to re-home and as a consequence were also destroyed.

In just one month alone - September 2008 Belle Vue supplied 9 cadavers to Liverpool University.

The research is part funded by the Greyhound Board of Great Britain, who also gave a student vacation bursary of £1,200.

A further 4 greyhounds have recently been raced to deaths at Belle Vue. Happy Hawk, Liam Maldini, Blue Fern and Balreask Touch, all within the space of two weeks. And let us not forget Frisby Foreman who's fateful end was broadcast on live television from Belle Vue.

It is estimated at least 1,500 greyhounds sustain injuries annually on British tracks, resulting in destruction. However, this estimation does not include those young dogs forced to trial on unfamiliar tracks, where the injury rate is potentially far greater.

I was going for a staff night out tomorrow at Belle Vue, By doing so I am partly funding the track and the industry. I am a dog lover always have been. But when greyhounds stop racing the majority are disposed of in some way. Never thought about it until I saw your post. Now I shall appologise to my work colleagues and dontate to the greyhound protection league instead.

Dog racing is just as nasty as horse racing. It is time people stopped thinking of these animals as a commodity and realize that they are living, feeling beings who only want to please us. Do they really believe this is how they should treat those who give them loyalty and devotion? If so, I pity their families.

Some people believe that these creatures have nothing better to do than run around.

I know these dogs have hearts made of gold.

Elegant and graceful, cute and cuddly.

To all those people who do not care for a dog like that I say that this dog deserves more respect than you!!! They are much smarter and superior than the pea-brained people who abuse them. They are golden heritage, the best things the great might of the Egyptian empire left that 4000 years ago.

Greyhounds are not only dying on the track chasing a fake rabbit so greedy men can profit, they are being executed once it is determined that are of no further use. In Phoenix a Greyhound is killed the day after he or she fails to "Win, Place or Show” at least once in ten consecutive races, unless someone is there to rescue that greyhound. I adopted a greyhound who survived 2 years at the Phoenix Greyhound Park. He was one of the lucky ones, I adopted him out of Caliente Tijuana 1 year later

whoever made this video and added the music to try and make it more dramatic is imho a sick bastard.It is clear that even the dogs taking a tumble are getting back on their feet and chasing on because thats what they are born to do.Get a life.

Sorry but adding dramatic music to a video of dogs getting into tumbles is not my idea of educating people about animal cruelty and whoever made this video is a sick bastard.
