MacBook random shutdown

MacBook randomly shutting down.

The problem started at the end of July. The computer started randomly shutting off by itself for no apparent reason. I documented the problem on video in case, for some reason, the problem was not detected at the store; unfortunately, this was the case. On the Apple discussion forum (http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=218), I discovered that there were many users with the same problem, even after the problem was repaired once (and more than once, in some cases).

Of lately, I got my computer back from the lab where they were looking at it; however, nothing was done because they couldn't find anything wrong with it and explained verbatim that "it's common, because new machines have to settle down." Even after they saw the video, I couldn't believe the men really thought this ridiculous problem could be solved by working itself out. To make matters worse, it seems that Apple doesn't know who to contact in regards to this problem. I was directed to AppleCare from the official Apple Store I bought it from just to be told that the problem had to be dealt with at the store. To makes matters worse, the store then argued that the problem was fixed, and I should be patient while the computer worked itself out, again!

August 29th
Today my MacBook came in, just back from the repair centre. I went in and I asked to test it out just to be sure it worked properly, but a few seconds after they turned it on... it shut down! The guy was embarrassed and tried replacing RAM, it kept shutting off. He told me he was sorry but he couldn't do other than sending it back to the lab to get fixed again. I said no, because it had just come back from the lab (and clearly wasn't fixed). I asked for a new unit and he said he couldn't give me one, so I asked for a refund and he couldn't do that either. We argued for two hours before he finally said I could have it replaced with a new model, and I got an iBook until it comes in. It took two hours to convince them of all of this.
A funny note, while I was there a guy at the store in line behind me said that his MacBook was shutting off by itself too, and that he had other problems like the ones reported at the Apple discussion forums (vertical lines at boot up, discoloration of the plastic around the keyboard, etc).

i have a macbook and it turns off on me too sometimes if i touch the bottom left corner where you plug in the cord for my battery it shuts off on me. would this be my logic board or my battery???? if anyone knows can you plz help me thanks

i had the same problem took it to apple where charging me 300 to replace my logic board because the cpu chip was over heating and turning off to protect the computer from over heating. I took it tto some it guy charged me 100 bucks and he retooled the CPU and for the last couple of months my computer has been working perfectly, so dont take it to apple take it to computer repair that deal with make and they can retool the heat sink on your cpu

....this happened to one of my old MacBooks and it's has been happening to me with my MacBook unibody, so annoying!

it even shut down when the lid was closed and I wasn't using it and it sill had 1.5 hour battery life.....WTF?

Hi everybody ,

mine had same problem (built july 2007) , but ONLY ON BATTERY POWER , so just test it with a battery from a macbook without this problem . If it doesn't shut even with 4 videos playing on Youtube and Itunes running , there you go , that's the damn battery .

Mine as never shut down on AC power .

My battery actually doesn't sustain heat dissipation or whatever else needed more power from it (sorry I'm not too technical with this ) .

I have the same problem with my Macbook White C2D 2.2. Even installing the SMC control and speeding up the RPM, the mac is still having the problem.

its overheating because your fan it not working.knock it 10 times on the top of the numclock
