Ethanol mandates require millions of acres of woodland to be destroyed to plant corn.

  • Or plant sugar cane in the

SouthEast that can produce twice the ethanol per acre as corn.

AND Jatropha beans for bio diesel in soil that won't grow food

  • da.... what a play. try to not not move your eyes from right to left as you read from your freaken cards.

  • The fact remains that the govt profits more than the oil companies. The govt should not profit at all. Not all of the tax on fuel is road tax. That's primarily added at the state level. Here in PA, our wonderful King Edward, the governor of Philadelphia gets us for around 60 cents a gallon on top of what the feds whack us for. Additionally, the state hits us with vehicle registrations which should be more than sufficient funds to maintain the roads.

  • I actually do drive a diesel truck. My wife the SUV. Freedom to buy and drive what you want is the point. If you can sell me an electric vehicle with the same power and size at the same price, I'll look at it. It's not there yet.

  • ==I'm not trading a 9 passenger 4x4 SUV with 400 HP for a tin can with 40 HP and no room.==

    Well then,

Whats wrong with driving a diesel truck instead of a gasoline truck?

Especially if modern catalytic converters, which make it as clean in emissions as a hybird.

Furthermore, you don't know what you're missing when it comes to electric motors and power.

Most drilling motors and train motors are electric, since they have ungodly ammounts of torque.

  • No actually we can't when we're giving them so many dollars in subsidy already.

Especially if you consider this a subsidy:

Not to mention, the tax that you're refering to is primarily a road tax.

Which isn't really a charge on the fuel persay, as a charge to consumers on how much they drive on the roads.

Fuel used is merely assumed to be proportional to wear on the road.

  • I agree. Actually, ANWR is only a "drop in the bucket" with all of the available domestic resources. Another problem is refining the oil, the tree huggers block domestic refineries. Mandating higher fuel economy sucks as bad as any other madnate. I'm not trading a 9 passenger 4x4 SUV with 400 HP for a tin can with 40 HP and no room. Get the government out of the way and let the market take care of it.

  • I think that we can overlook that considering the various government entities profit more from a gallon of fuel than those who expend great resources to locate, extract, transport and refine the oil (the evil, profit bearing oil companies). Oh, and for that money the government does NOTHING!

  • Sexy Bubba! Great video.

  • ==CAFE makes our cars lighter and kills thousands of Americans every year.==

    Bullshit.

    1. Cars don't need to be lighter, they just need better mileage. Is a Diesel/Hybrid engine less safe than Gasoline? Hell no.

    2. The study you're refering to was completely taken out of context, and the statement made was wrong.
