Cats 8 - That Is A Cat!

Song #8 from the Cat Show charity CD "Songs My Cat Taught Me".

It is based on the hit 1968 song "Those Were The Days" sung by Mary Hopkin, who went on to be a close runner up at the 1970 Eurovision Contest for Britain with another hit song "Knock Knock Who's There?", The English lyrics were written in 1963 by Gene Raskin based on a Russian Gypsy song "Dorogoj Dlinnoju" which is brilliantly sung by the "Belgian Elvis" Helmut Lotti on YouTube.

Whatever the origin of the song, it now has a feline alter ego! No single cat could be all the things in the lyrics, so a mixture of images has been used to convey the idea of a large fierce and somewhat condescending creature. In our collective experience, there might even be the odd two legged creature that fits the bill...............present company excluded of course.

That Is A Cat!

He can eat a dozen eggs for breakfast
And consume a chicken for his lunch.
He just loves fish tails for his dinner
We can buy them cheaper by the bunch.

Has his favourite spot for relaxation
The computer chair that we all need.
He resists all efforts to unseat him.
Try too hard he'll scratch and you might bleed.

The older cats would try to dominate.
Once he grew much larger than his elders
He'd have first bite of food placed on their plate.

He accepts attention from his peers.
Problem is he thinks that he is human,
