The famous (and extremely difficult) second aria of the Queen of the Night of Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" sung live in the Salzburger Festspiele (August, 2006) by the unbeatable Diana Damrau ^^ (I must make a remark: SHE WAS SINGING WITH LARYNGITIS).

I don't like the dress, but she'd be worth watching even if she was dressed in pink lol Muti was conducting, Pierre Audi was the one with the scenography and Jorge Jara the responsible for the costumes (Blame him, not Diana...)

  • would you happen to have the Queen's final appearance (Nur Stille) of this performance

  • @DarkPhoenixBlood I had posted it already, look in my videos :)

  • please what is he name of the woman who's playng pamina

  • @keriah17 Genia Kühmeier :)

  • @lilith89ibz And he is a stupid man, as many men are. It was, perhaps, a stupid thing to say (Ay, a werry stupid thing to say) but I still think that the director is a philistine. Yet, you have outproven me, in a way; and I, for thee, strew white lilies on thy wits.

Excuse my english, fair friend, also!

  • @veritaas Agreed on that. This production takes one of the stereotypes, the children story, to a ridiculous extent. What I find hideous are the costumes, mostly. It does have a couple of interesting ideas (like when the Queen hears the conversation between the Three Ladies, Tamino and Papageno) but even the worst productions have some good ideas. That they suggest the Queen goes from 'good' to 'bad' changing the color of her dress from light to dark green to black is really stupid.

  • Her acting and voice is beyond great but she looks like a crowned cabbage/broccoli. Why the color green? I mean if it was blue or black it wouldn't be a big deal, but green? Really? Shes the queen of the night not queen of the broccoli!

    I don't believe it!

  • Genial, totalmente genial. Su voz e interpretación ¡fuera de serie! Y la puesta ¡increible! El verde petróleo es exactamente una noche mozartiana y mágica. De repollos nada jajaja. Gracias por compartir estas delicias.

  • ES PEC TA CU LAR

  • Dear GOD, does Damrau even TRY for those high notes?!

  • @TheWizardofodd12

I know, right!? At least they were consistant and painted the night sky green as well.

  • GÄNSEHAUT

  • en verdad que tema mas maravilloso!!!!

  • This version is so much hammier. But I love it.

  • @WolligesHangschaf sie ist so in der rolle, das mann glaubt das sie auch so im leben ist!.

  • Pamina looks older than the queen!

  • The costumes are ludicrous. Seems mocking to the beauty of this aria.

  • I can't believe that she is 35 years old at that time...

  • 0:00 Hide yourself!

  • Dear god that dress is just awful!!! But she sounds amazing so no one really pays attention to the dress while she's blasting out those F's

  • Wow, Damrau is even scarier than Covent Garden. But not as sexy. The spiked bathing cap throws me off.

  • I'm assuming the costume designer had the idea to make the Queen appear more serious each time she came on stage. The progression from the green afro to the darker emerald green, and then finally to the black dress.

  • My gosh. I do love Diana Damrau and Luciana Serra as The Queen Of the night... I Guess that these two "Divas" are the best .

  • @Fischerssop17 Best version on the Internet, IMO. She's scary and angry, just what a fairy tale needs. She's a great singer and actress.

  • I think it looks very Kandinsky. Diana is lovely in that color, helped by the contrast of orange in the other costume. Her singing and performances always send me. Stars and stars for her!

  • Who's responsible for dressing Diana up as the Queen of Seaweed? She looks like Neptun's wife! They should've dressed Pamina as the little mermaid, hee hee hee.

  • @Lilith89ibz thank you

  • Pause at 0:03. Best face ever!!
