@Patchman123 The Allisons did not do well in the climate of Europe. I have most all the books I know about the 38, with many accounts of the pilots. There is story after story about the unreliability of the engines in the European theater. Freezing up, seizing, etc. The P-51 had a Merlin engine, not an Allison, and it was simply a better engine overall.

He also died flying a P-38, too. God bless him! Ethell was a wonderful man and in my opinion, the best aviation historian of all. RIP Jeffrey Ethell. We will miss you. 1947-1997. The Allisons did well in the P-38, in fact it had a supercharger, and the P-51's Allison engine did not. There's the difference. Allison P-51s could not operate at high altitudew, P-38 could.

The Germans called it the Forked-tailed Devil.

what a plane the japanese used to call it the "two tailed devil" :) i used to always crash when i tried to rocket bomb some tanks....those were the good days......

@TopLayerEscort Correct. And as the late Jeff Ethel liked to point out, his dad (who flew the Lightning) used to cut back on one engine and give more power to the other (much like steering a dozer), and that enabled it to turn very sharply. What I wish is that Kelly Johnson had put the Merlins in instead of the Allisons. Yep, both Bong and Mac knew how to fly it.....

I loaned this game out, and someone lost one of the disks and I only have one of the two now. Sucks. I suppose I could download the other off of pirate bay. I had a blast in this game back in the day, even though my video card could barely do medium settings. Are there any network servers for this running anymore? i doubt it.
great game. brings back so many memories...

4 x .50 caliber MG (12.7mm) plus the centerline 20mm cannon. Nice.
