Backes cross-checks Semin (vs STL 12/18/08)

The refs missed the boat by not calling a penalty on the Blues' David Backes with this third period cross-check to the lower back of Alexander Semin. Semin left the game and did not return. The Caps were assessed a bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct when they protested the lack of a call.

I watched Semin practice this morning (1/3/09) at Kettler. He looked good and didn't appear to have any difficulty skating or shooting the puck. He may play tonight against the Rangers, but a decision will not be made until pre-game warm ups.

But it's okay when your own guy does it right? Blind biases are why none of these arguments ever matter...I don't think Backes' check intended to hurt Semin. The refs obviously didn't determine that he did. But Ovie retaliating doesn't better the situation either. Love the Chili Peppers!

Backes is a coward, always pulling dirty hits and other cheap shots. He has no respect for the opponents and their health

it was embellished? that's why he went directly to the locker room after the hit, and still hasn't played in a game since.

That so called tap hit him directly on a nerve in his back and can cause more damage than anything visible to the average eye.

The refs sucked all the way through this game. Four gay penalties for the Caps, to 1 penalty for St. Louis, and not even for this obvious late hit.

which is why he will miss an undetermined amount of games, maybe it was the slash to the back of the knee that caused the injury that was embellished huh
