In 2005 I had an online friend in Bahrain who wanted to know if those of us in Toronto, Canada "hated Americans." I explained to them that despite Bush's victory, approximately half of Americans were staunchly opposed to the man. How can the United States of America truly be an evil empire when so many of its people are aware of and oppose imperialistic policies?
