The wood are for growing mushrooms , they need dark and damp wood to grow.
Shitake is grown like that and some other mushrooms also.

That giant lotus flower is a beacon, right?
Under the tarps are microbe infested pile of pine wood chunks treated with toxic chemicals. Korea is currently at war with that microbes, or tiny bugs? I don't know the exact name. And if the liquid in the plastic bottles is soju, it is not moonshine. There is nothing illegal about it. There is no fermentation or something like that. Soju is made by distillation not by fermentation.

No worries! There are many foreigners living n the Haeundae area! I don't live there anymore. I left in early 2007 and now live in Japan.
If you live in Haeundae you are very lucky. it's a great place to live!
