Mohawk Takes Manhattan: Country Living's 2010 House of the Year

At Mohawk, we consider it to be an incredible honor to be involved in the Home Green Home project and have our sustainable products chosen as part of the construction.

We've created EverStrand carpet from recycled bottles, SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona carpet from corn, and reclaimed Mohawk Hardwood from collapsed buildings- it's time to show the world how realistic a green home can be!

Named after it's close proximity to the Hudson River on 220 Vesey Street, the "Hudson"(pictured) is a two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom, 1,600-square-feet home that embodies "green living with classic country style".

The guest bedroom features our sustainable EverStrand carpet and the floor plan features reclaimed Mohawk hardwood throughout. No stranger to high-volume tests of durability, over 10,000 House of the Year visitors will walk on Mohawk flooring.

The Hudson also represents a joint effort of LEED-certified, modular green home designs by Country Living and New World Home called the Country Living Collection. Features include fireplaces, oversize windows, and an open floor plan that fully integrates the greenest products and practices available today.

To match the beautiful exterior, acclaimed NY interior designer Katie Ridder was handed household decorating duties citing green furnishings with an emphasis on bold color.

After June 17th, the house will move to Crystal Springs Resort near Vernon, NJ and reside at the Country Living Green Modular Home design center, and later be featured in the October 2010 issue of Country Living Magazine.

What may attract visitors simply for being a slice of country life in the center of the Big Apple, we at Mohawk hope the Home Green home project inspires everyone to examine how they can implement sustainable flooring in their households.

This will definitely be a site to behold, so make sure to come see it in person!
