Romney's Thoughts on the Middle Class

Mitt Romney at a secret donor meeting:

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what...These are people who pay no income tax.

"[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Here's the worst part of what Mitt is saying: VETS & serving troops are included in his definition of "freeloaders." Vets paid for their benefits with broken and destroyed bodies and minds. He talks so much about supporting the troops, but doesn't mention them in his acceptance speech, excuses himself by saying he's not making a laundry list and can only talk about "important" things, and now he tells us the troops are freeloaders and he doesn't care for them. Very nice.

Taxation is not "robbing" as you are free to leave and go to Somalia when ever you wish. I understand the linchpins of capitalism, but please enlighten me as to the mechanisms that are intrinsic to the "free market" that prevent monopolies, exploitation and the boom and bust cycles that are characteristic of capitalism? You believe in a fairy-tale "invisible hand", an extremist version of capitalism. I believe in a more pragmatic one where there is a legitimate role for the government to play.
