September 6, 2007 -- Please pray for the soul of Private First Class Mykel Miller, who was killed in action. Private First Class Miller was the vehicle driver in the lead vehicle of a Ground Assault Convoy when his vehicle was hit by an IED. Private First Class Miller died instantly from the explosion. Other members of Private First Class Miller's crew also sustained serious injuries and were evacuated. Private First Class Joseph Gracia was the Gunner at the time his vehicle was hit. He was ejected from the turret, knocked unconscious and sustained two severely broken legs. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he is danger of losing his right leg. Private First Class Conrad Shulte suffered from smoke inhalation but is expected to make a full recovery.

Private First Class Miller was a member of 3rd Squad, 3rd Platoon, B Company, 1st Battalion, 158th Infantry and a member of PRT Qalat. He was a Soldier who placed the mission first. He always had a positive, upbeat attitude and he was an inspiration to those around him. He will be missed by all who knew him. A dedicated and courageous Warrior who volunteered to join the Army and the Global War on Terror, Private Miller made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.

Private First Class Miller is survived by his two younger brothers and parents Mr. and Mrs. Miller. Please take a moment of silence to honor Private First Class Miller's devotion to his family, friends, unit, and nation. We pray for his family in their time of loss and sorrow.

I think you are overlooking that the soldiers of the USA fight to defend freedom, demand justice and promote long lasting peace and NOT to harm the innocent people of other countries. Yes, some soldiers have moral failings and make mistakes. However, the majority are fighting against the "powers and principalities of this present darkness." Ephesians 6:12 Evil prospers when good people do nothing.

Rosario Nunez (Mykel Miller's birth name) is the son of Israel Nunez Cruz, Indianapolis, an honorable man and very dear friend of mine. Israel and Rosario shared a love of motorcycles and planned a road trip to Vegas for the end of September 2007. His father, too, suffers to this day the loss of his son. To those who loved Rosario's smile, it lives on in his father, Israel, on a good day.

We know Mykel's mom and I can't begin to tell you how heartbreaking this was for our entire community. As a mother I am so thankful to you for your service and all you are doing to keep our children safe. I will pray for your safety and also peace to your families as they wait your return.
