No, a man can't be humble if he seeks to make himself a god, which is what the Godless man seeks. Since this is so, nothing can be given to this man, he must take all that he seeks by conquest, including his knowledge. Thus he knows because he is intelligent and discerning, because of his own personal greatness, not because it is given to him by an act of grace. When anyone else claims to know anything, he interprets the statement according to that same model of conquest.

Someone can't claim to be humble if they claim to "just know" the nature of the universe through faith. Christianity isn't humble. Why do people look to it to teach them about humility?

But anywho enough of the disclaimer, as I said, I think it a great read. I think it has something to say for both Christians and Non Christians and I think it's quite possible that neither shall like to hear it. Though sometimes the best medicines are the most bitter. Have you read "The Problem of Pain" also by C.S Lewis?
I have not but I think I would find it interesting as I think the problem of suffering one of the trickier subjects in not just Christianity but just life in general.

I thought it a good read the book "Mere Christianity". I wonder if Non Christians would think that I'm saying that because I am a Christian and I just like things simply because they are Christian. Actually I do not. I find most Christian books to either not be very Christian or not written very well or sometimes they are beyond my reading level. I think it would be the same for Non Christians. I'm sure not every Non Christian loves every Non Christian book.

Trying to think what I think of this. I'm sure I agree with him, that a humble person is not someone who is always telling you they are nobody. I'm also sure I disagree that someone humble will necessarily be intelligent or come across as intelligent, I'm sure someone with learning disabilities could be humble, while not being "clever" in the worlds eyes. The rest I'm thinking about. Is humility the same as dying to self? Maybe. I'm not sure. Thinking... Probably....Possibly....

@sepiasunrise I love your thoughts. I think he mentions intelligence because in order to learn, you have to be humble. So humble people will naturally want to learn more? But I see your point, too, about people with learning disabilities. Hmm.
