I dunno I personally find the screeching of Larry and DW to be grating and over the top. This finish isn't the best example of Ken Squire or Ned Jarrett's race calling ability, but I'd take their worst over the shrill and overblown calls from today's announcers any day.

@hookups i would like to see nascar use the exhsust system of the corvette c6 gt1 class of the american le man sieries, that car has the most bad ass sound, you can even hear its low bear growl over the loud shrill of the ferrari's, porche's and the bmw's

"About five seconds to paydirt." Great call by Squier as the field turned for home.

I love this announcing crew. I also love the throaty roar of these engines. The exhaust system changed around 1994-95 and now is more high pitched.

These were the last of the good ol' days of NASCAR Racing before jerks like Jeff Gordon and his ilk took over and they took racing away from the classic tracks and moved it to places like - ugh - Las Vegas and Chicago. Blech.

as much as the engine sound of the 80s stood out, i really was a fan of the sound of these cars. maybe it's because it was the era of nascar i was introduced to that brings back memories, but they had a pretty bad ass sound.

Does it ever occur to you that maybe they (CBS) couldn't find another quote that woule have described the situation as well as Socrates' famous line?
-
@chrisuncleahmad "Not enough" is the correct answer. I loved CBS' coverage.

the other race was the 2007 Pepsi 400 at Daytona Jamie Mcmurray beat Kyle Busch by 0.005 sec. Ahh i love photo finishes in NASCAR.
Guess thats why i'm a harvick fan :D

That was suuuuuper touching when they showed him driving away in his racecar......

A Socrates quote??? Weak CBS...Weak...Davey deserves better.

I wish Dale had paid some tribute to Davey, kind of a lack of class on his part IMO; everyone rightly paid tribute to his passing all of the 2001 season; particularly that this is the race weekend in which we lost Davey.

this was actually the 2nd race after Allison's death, the first was Pocono in which Earnhardt won and Earnhardt DID pay tribute to Davey after that race with an Allison flag and a prayer and the finish line with his whole crew
