Actually, Canada could supply all the oil the U.S needs, along with South America...in fact, we get most of our oil from those two areas...

And, sustaining your economy on oil or any other single resource is a bad idea. Many studies have shown that "oil countries" suffer from high instability and low political freedom.

Actually, the French put up a pretty good fight in WW2- it's just that the leadership knew that they could resist better from North Africa. Some Nazis in France then decided to "surrender" and set up a puppet government, which most French people resisted.
