Shocked. That's just one of many reactions to the jaw-dropping experience of City Safety in a New Volvo XC60: the car that stops itself. See for yourself and get behind the wheel of the world's first car with standard auto-braking during the "From Sweden with Löv" Tour: http://www.volvocars.com/us/campaigns/Misc/Pages/XC60LaunchUS.aspx?deeplink=E...

  • why do we need a car that stops itself? Really, please explain.

  • Research shows that approx. 75% of all accidents occur in low mileage situations (under 19mph) and many of those accidents involve a distracted driver. Creating City Safety is Volvo's answer to an undeniable problem, in our effort to provide safety in all driving situations.

  • While the technology has benefits I would perfer funding go to driver education, hell up the driving age up to 18, put devices that jam cell signals while the car is in motion.

My big complaint is all the ad's go off and claim "The worlds first"...well no thats a dirty lie at best, the Mercedes S-class starting in 00 or 01 had this same feature, the only difference was that you could turn it off if you wanted. If your going to hit a lexus though, go ahead and do us a favor - hit the gas.

  • To clarify, this is a world's first as standard. While other companies may have similar technologies, Volvo is the first to include it as a standard feature in the XC60.

  • The Driver needs to be more responsible instead of car companies creating ways to compensate for stupidity, bad driving habits and a basic wtf attitude.

  • Volvo recognized that 75% of accidents were occurring in these low speed situations. Regardless of fault, we seek to address the need to reduce injuries and accidents overall. This was an area where technology could assist. The responsibility of driving remains with the driver.

  • @VolvoXC60 It's an additional option in Ireland. This doesn't come standard.

  • Don't act like you're invincible people. Every driver gets distracted here and there and it takes that 1 unlucky time to be distracted to strike a child/person going across the street. Thankfully this technology NEVER blinks and is NEVER distracted. For that 1 time in the 30 years of driving you get distracted this program will be your second eyes.

  • @butch93105 No matter how much you try and keep people from being distracted at the wrong time, there will always be accidents due to distraction. I will fully fund this type of technology because even the greatest of drivers fuck up here and there and for all we know it may kill a person.

  • @enigma02g Humans will ALWAYS make mistakes regardless of the knowledge given. I'd fund electronics saving our ass any day over trying to over educate a human that will simply be distracted from time to time.

  • This lady is "OOOH MY GOD, THE CAR STOPS, CAN´T BELIEVE IT!!!" Uh, maybe it does if you pay attention and hit that BIG pedal beside the accelerator...

  • this car saved me bunch in my insurance. when my wife drives city Safety is there instead of me :)

  • @normanmj Technically not, because this a is standard feature on the XC60, so whether you have the elite model or even the base model, it will always include this ground-breaking technology. And this car is reasonably cheap for what it offers, something which you haven't considered.

  • Yes, she looks like someone who would use this feature a lot....

  • @VolvoXC60 I couldn't agree more. And along with Volvo's innovation and quality, you should be absolutely reassured that you are in complete safety when driving a Volvo automobile.

  • @VolvoXC60 Now tell me; what does the cop suppose to do in that case, give a ticket to vehicle instead of the driver or even better send the vehicle to jail until the registration expire, how about the junk yard maybe? I hope you get my point and someone else does too
