One of America's greatest Hard- Rock bands and best kept secrets, they should have blown up like Aerosmith and filled arenas worldwide. One of the first wave of Black Rock bands in the 1970's their funk- rock sound never got the sales it deserved on Black and Rock Radio. From their landmark album 1977's "Another Mother Further"

personnel..

Vocals- Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy
Vocals- Glen "Doc" Murdock
Bass- Wyzard
Keys - Mike Keck

  • Reading the info to go with this video, I have to disagree. Maybe they were not as blown up as Aerosmith (thank god) but in Europe they were big. In the pub (Holland) were I used to come they were top of the bill, went to holidays in Germany and there they were big also. So maybe the US didnot know what jewel they had, I would like to think that in Europe we knew what great band we had. At least in Holland they were present at the biggest festivals, like Pink Pop etc.

  • @DirkjeA

Don't know much about their popularity in Europe but know that they have a huge audience across the water, but in America they should have been huge because their music was groundbreaking as Nirvana's was 13 years later in the 90's

  • They were too white for black radio and too black for white radio. Just saw them July 28th, 2011. This group still rocks with the energy they had in the 70's. Joyce Kennedy is 63 and still has the voice and energy that rocks with the best of them. Moses Mo is an insane guitarist. Check out recent videos. Will be inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in September, 2011. An honor way overdue!!!!!

  • @leahcim3360

Well, I aint gonna meet your second statement (love ZZ TOP! lol)

but I also saw them in Sweden, autumn '78 in a small towns' school auditorium and if you'd watched this video (=the whole one from which this was taken), the show they made there was just like this one..!! Saw also Joyce in Gothenburg, Sweden, '90 or '91 in a local city festival with Jerry..

    Cheerz!

    Awesome group

  • I saw Mother's Finest in Clemson SC in 1977, opening for ZZ TOP (who should have stayed backstage ).

  • @Jellogel We too listened to LZ, Stones, Kinks, The Who, Cream, Pink FLoyd Jeff Beck, The Animals etc and many other English bands on the radio-pirates like radio Caroline. Rory Gallagher was and always will be my favourite musician, and he is Irish, together with Thin Lizzy. Oh well, there were and are so many great bands, and it is no contest ofcourse, just about enjoying great music, and that we did and do I hope.

  • @DirkjeA we may have been too busy listening to Led Zeppelin, The WHo, The Kinks, The Stones, etc... catch my drift

  • They are a great band. I hate to say that in one of the greatest times for music in the history of the world. Some truly great bands are over looked. I remember hearing them on the radio and my wife seen them live, here in Georgia. Remember the time though, Pink Floyd, Led, Lynyrd, the list goes on and on. They were great then but they were among the greatest of all time. I didn't forget them that's why I'm here.

  • @dadevi Oberheim 4-Voice (or possibly an 8-Voice - it's hard to see from this angle)

  • I am not sure but I will find out next hsuppose to be on my talk show...ey week, t

  • @twomucht Do you know what kind of keyboard the keyboardist is using for that awesome solo?

  • I partied with the band every New Year's Eve, at a club right off West Peachtree and 17th St. for about six years in a roll. Damn, they were overlooked and stayed under the radar on our nation of rock,. But in Georgia, Mother's Finest will always get their just due !
