  • I also had extreme hyperemesis with my first pregnancy the...whole pregnancy and a couple of weeks after. I always request the client's dr's approval before the massage-high risk or not--but do you think it's okay to massage a pregnant client close to the due date? Thanks for posting.

  • It is very beneficial for a pregnant woman to receive a massage just before her due date. Just don't use a lot of pressure on their legs, because they are at a higher risk for blood clots. AS long as their doctor gives them the o.k. to deliver anytime, then you can concentrate on the acupressure points to help induce labor.

  • just to get this out of the way i have a co worker who is a MT also, said that during a pregnancy massage they client should alway slay on there left side . Is this true, becuase i was trained it's okay to lay on both sides..but yeah Thanks for the video really helped out alot : )

  • It all depends what their doctor or midwife says :)

  • Great Info. Thanks for the post.

  • elise0222, I hope you mean most miscarriages occur in the first trimester, not most women miscarry in the first trimester. Chemical pregnancies aside, that is not true at all.

  • Great job with communicating the info about the problems more so than just telling how to do the massage. I am starting a business and I plan on adding basic prenatal massage. Before I work on any pregnant woman, the massage would have to be approved by their primary doctor. I thank you for the info and keep on doing what you do.

  • I am a Massage Therapist and work in a Day Spa. We do not give pregnancy massages during the first trimester. This avoids a lawsuit, because most women miscarry in the first 3 months and we DO NOT want to be blamed for a miscarriage that would have happened on its own. That is the real reason. Better safe than sorry.

  • Very very informative in about to gobto a massage spa and tea room with my fiancé today and she's 18 weeks pregnant we didn't speak to her docter about it because it's a suprise and I just came up with the idea yesterday but thank you for all your helpfully information. Have a blesses day

  • thank massage nerd, i give regular pregnancy massages and also enjoyed them while pregnant. it's always helpful to refresh the brain with do's and don'ts for pregnancy massage as it's more high risk.

  • I can't see how a light effleurage could do anything harmful and would love for someone to explain how it could be. The real problem is not that you have done anything harmful, but if the client has a bad result and THINKS you did it with your massage, you are in a world of hurt. In such cases, it is really up to YOU to prove that what ever you did could not have caused the problem. Contact your licensing board for "standard of care" for the preg client. If there is not any, work to get some

  • I am a massage therapist, I just got my license and I start my job today, my boss wants me to do pregnancy massage but I am scared to, I was interduced to it in school but I am not yet certified, I was wondering if I could get in trouble for doing pregnancy massage before I am certified in it. What areas do I avoid also?
