Very important, even Mark Jackson noticed this, so everyone should have. The Celtics did not slow Kobe's scoring down in the 2008 Finals with a zone defense. They used their base man on man defense with Kobe and at times they were rotating over to help. Similar to the way normal teams would defend MJ. The other teams in the Jordan era like the Knicks, Hornets and Pistons had better defenses than the Celtics but they were also allowed to be more physical under those rules.
So if anyone wants to know how Kobe would do against the old era, the Celtics have used man to man 99.9% of this series with weakside help as soon as Kobe puts the ball on the floor, similar to the way the marginal defensive teams defended Jordan. Kobe has struggled facing this style of defense. Another good indicator of how his production would drop in the Jordan era. The main thing that would make it tough for Kobe is his lack of elite footspeed. Imagine Kobe trying to face the 80's Pistons or 90's Knicks, I don't think even Kobe would like to contemplate that possibility. _____________ _____________ Kobe Bryant vs Michael Jordan performance comparison at the same age: 1993 NBA Finals Game 1 Jordan: 31 points, 14-28 fg's, 7 reb, 5 ast, 5 stl, 1 blk, 2 to, 3-4 ft 2008 NBA Finals Game 1 Kobe: 24 points, 9-26 fg's, 3 reb, 6 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk, 4 turnovers 1993 NBA Finals Game 2 Jordan: 42 points, 18-36 fg's, 12 reb, 9 ast, 2 stl, 0 blk, 5 to, 4-5 ft 2008 NBA Finals Game 2 Kobe: 30 points, 11-23 fg's, 4 reb, 8 ast, 3 stl, 0 blk 4 to, 7-7 ft 1993 NBA Finals Game 3 Jordan: 44 points, 19-43 fg's, 9 reb, 6 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk 3 to 3-6 ft 2008 NBA Finals Game 3 Kobe: 36 points, 12-20 fg's, 7 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl, 0 blk, 3 to, 11-18 ft 1993 NBA Finals Game 4 Jordan: 55 points, 22-37 fg's, 8 reb, 4 ast, 0 stl, 0 blk, 1 to, 13-18 ft 2008 NBA Finals Game 4 Kobe: 17 points, 6-19 fg's, 4 reb, 10 ast, 4 stl, 0 blk, 2 to, 5-6 ft 1993 NBA Finals Game 5 Jordan: 41 points, 16-29 fg's, 7 reb, 7 ast, 0 stl, 2 blk, 2 to, 7-10 ft 2008 NBA Finals Game 5 Kobe: 25 points, 8-21 fg's, 7 reb, 4 ast, 5 stl, 0 blk, 6 to, 5-7 ft 1993 NBA Finals Game 6 Jordan: 33 points, 13-26 fg's, 8reb, 7ast, 1stl, 0blk, 3to, 4-6ft 2008 NBA Finals Game 6 Kobe: 22 points, 7-22fg's, 3reb, 1ast, 1stl, 4to, 5-5ft _____________ _____________ I've been trying to come up with a good analogy for MJ's fire and tenacity. This is what I have come up with: "Jordan's determination and hunger rival that of a starved lion, in comparison, the stars of today remind me of hungry dogs. Not that a hungry dog can't be dangerous, it just can't match the intensity of the starved lion." - Bruce Blitz

kobe would lose the ball half the time with his small hands with all the hits grabing hed endure pre mid 90's. The physical style of ball played back would severely limit kobe to a jump shooter because he wouldnt be able to hold onto the ball slashing to the basket and in the lanes from the hits hed take and grabbing which would be legal then.
just check out this vid and compare jordans speed and athleticism to that of kobe games. Boh players get to the basket but they get there by diiferent reasons. Jordan got to the basket with athleticism, skill, big hands(being able to control and hold on to the ball while being legally hit and held), and intelligence. Kobe gets to the basket 70% reason due to defenders hands being tied down and uncongested lanes. It just looks different to. It seems like kobe, wade are in slow motion when they
drive and dunk while jordan is lightening quick and has to be because athleticism and fundamentals where needed in jordans time in order to get baskets around the rim and to break free from your defender.
when kobe carrys a team to a three peat while teams beating the shit out of him 82 games a year and playoffs like jodran endured pistons, knicks, cavs than you can mention kobe in the same sentence. But kobe playing in the no touch era and the only pounding he takes is in the ass from mikenot. Kobe slashing to the basket in slow mo no resistance is not the same as jordan slashing to the basket being held and hit going through congested lanes. Its completely different scenarios kobe and jordan
accumulate their numbers. Bruce is the greatest defender of jordans legacy on youtube because hes videos not only just show jordans games or edited down versions of jordans greatest games bruces vids are educational and point out facts and bring to the attention of ppl the propaganda being promulgated today of superior athletes, tougher competition and tougher rules
ppl compare kobe to jordan solely on stats alone and put him on jordans level without taking into consideration all that ive mentioned. Kobe would never put up the 30+ points hes putting up today pre 99. His stats are all hyped as those of the current nba. All the rules do is degrade jordans legacy because its easier to score and avg 30 a game and 5+ ast, reb. It deminises all that jordan accumulated. Jordan faced tougher resistence and what he did would never be done again. I dont care if
kobe avg 30 a season or if kobe puts up 81 because i see through the hype and bullshit of it. All of that will never equate to jordans 69 point game or all of jordans scoring titles because of the competition level jordan faced and defenses was so much more superior to that of kobe and todays era. Jordans once one of a kind stats are now reachable due to the leage lowering the bar to keep the attention of the attention deficit disorder ppl of today who need to see face pase high
individual ppg's from leagues star players. Its a crap league today and dont put kobe on the level of jordan because kobe is only mentioned in the same breath of jordan and is only putting up similar stats because the league handicaped the defenders and because shaq carried kobe to 3 championships. Not to mention kobe winning last year from all the good players like garnet, parker, ginobilu, yao, mcc grady, camby etc being out from injury.
The game has sold out more so today. They make it easier to score to create cash cows and market them. Jordan popularized the game so much stern saw that and wanted to create more players who can impact the game like he did. He wanted to create more jordans. Scoring and big stat lines sell tickets and generate ratings. the only difference is that put up his numbers in a era that didnt sell out. Jordans stats are legit

Kobe is the slow one here...Wade drives to the bucket as well as anyone...not to mention Wade has bigger hands than Kobe and the better handles
