They're starting to think "this is the one we shoulda baked."

I think the cheetah-baboon fight scene was a metaphor for the movie of how the prey turns the tables and becomes the hunter and the hunter becomes the prey.

@megapolon Cheetahs don't normally hunt Baboons. I think the Cheetah was just harassing the baboon for running practice. They're not a match (by themselves) to take on adult baboons.Cheetahs are better runners than fighters and usually hunt Thompson gazelles.Leopards, on the other hand, can take on baboons regularly because they are more powerfully built (and craftier) than cheetahs.

those are masai spears if im not mistaken...
In this movie they do the symbolism just right. They aren't overly artsy, or pretentious, or too heavy handed about it. All amongst the lush beauty of Africa. Life is a hunt. Consider the opening scene with the washer woman being killed by the lion. Contrast that to this scene with the baboon (that's a baboon, right?), and the cheetah. The baboon starts off as prey, but fights back. The cheetah is startled, scared. Who's predator at this point?

Mel Gibson must have taken inspiration for Apocalypto from this classic
