@KillBoxFilms 2 or 3 days after the tornado, I walked from 9th St to 30th St thru the park by Dillons, ( I had to take shelter in a ruined shelter because of the lightning, it killed a police officer that day) then past the High School,up 22nd St & got lost...no landmarks or street signs at all...

@shearoxursox not to compare death tolls, but in that confound space of a tornado and surrounding areas get it much worse. much more intense, but a hurricane is obviously much more widespread but less intense and a much better warning and this tornado was rain wrapped and they didnt get much of a warming, but some got at least a decent warning, but joplin got fucked and the people in the path 250-270 mph winds

My team pulled bodies from the ruins and were told to stand down while the liar in chief was in town for his phony photo opt; Trust me he lies when he says that they Feds will be there for us.

I spent 8 years of my life in Joplin. And now there's nothing left of it. Countless friends and family were injured, killed, and have no home anymore. God bless those people in Joplin. This video put me to tears. :(

I am speechless after watching this video...I feel so sorry for the people of Joplin and although you see the news and hear about it, I'm sure it's nothing compared to being right in the middle of it! God bless all of the people who lost their lives and the families that are left to carry on...

@tornadowitch I think if Joplin has shown us anything, it has shown us that we still have a lot to learn about tornado safety. In addition, the rest of this country needs to wake up to the suffering felt by fellow American’s in Joplin and help out. Also understand the very real possibility that this same disaster could affect you as well. NEVER assume, it cannot happen to you.

As much as I love the chase, there are some videos, such as this one, that I wish we would never see. Meaning, as much as I love chasing tornadoes, I hate the devastation they leave behind, it is heart wrenching to say the least. Homes and communities can be rebuilt, however, lives cannot.
I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks this, but why in the hell didn't we get something on youtube in the dirty south when Katrina put a boot in our asses that we are still recovering from? We just got videos of people dying and being torn apart by debris as the world as they knew it folded up around them and spit them out in pieces. Pardon my french, but that sh*t hurts.

@Tauralus Well, the truth of the matter is that a large part of why we received so much help as we did was a direct result of the backlash for the ABSENCE of help immediately following Katrina. I have watched numerous documentaries about Katrina, and it is clear that all sectors of the government dropped the ball, making a terrible event even more horrific and unbearable for those who died as well as those who managed to make it out alive.

I just want everyone here to know, I read all these comments. I thank you for sharing your personal stories of that day. I hope there will be more. This is a record of those events, so type away. I can't respond t them all, becasue I am notoriously bad with words. Thank you to ALL the EMERGENCY/POLICE/RESCUE people for putting your ASSES on the line every day of your lives. I am also getting quite a boost from the positive feedback., and read and consider the negative feedback as well...
