Big Pharma Front Groups, NAMI? Psychiatry Mental Health

Dr. John Breeding, Ph.D. Psychologists discusses pharmaceutical front groups that pretend to be mental health consumer advocates but receive huge donations and funding from Big Pharma corporations to forward their marketing agenda. Where does NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) fit into this picture?

Are these groups really advocating for the people with mental illness or are they there to pressure legislative action in favor making money for the big corporations. Are their anti-stigma campaigns really designed to protect the human rights of the mentally ill or are they there to promote and market treatment? Are they advocating on the behalf of the consumer or are they just pushing drugs?

  • Did he say "new speak"?

  • I think the term is newspeak NEWS + Speak.

It's a term coined by George Orwell in Brave New World for the propaganda that news media sends out to control the public.

  • ..... with their oppressors. They are like these people who say that the world is beautiful and deny the suffering of others just because their life is beautiful; like these people who assert psychiatric medications are good and deny the damage they cause because they work for them. Their philosophy is simple; pull that ladder up, and sod the rest!

  • The worst thing is all these odious, toadying psychiatric slaves on the site. There's nothing more despicable than a happy slave, who thinks all slaves must remain slaves just because they are happy slaves. Their analogic-correlates in human history would have to be; concentration camp Jewish people who bartered their conscience and loyalty to escape the gas chamber; and the chattel slaves who fought against the abolition of chattel slavery, because they liked it, and often they identified...

  • Hahahahahaha! Who ever is reading this and isn't a Mental Health Tolalitarian hypocrite, you should go on their site. I read a story about a woman and the author of this execrable article says that medication exacerbates this woman's tardive dyskinesia. What, you mean the tardive dyskinesia that she got from taking medication that was supposed help her? Teu don't mention the origin of her TD. How very convenient.

  • On their site, you will find information on how to ensnare your 'loved' ones. It encourages the use of some extremely cunning stratagems to get your 'loved' ones sectioned.

  • As Szasz points out in Liberation by Oppression, the National Alliance for the Modern Inquisition uses a very sophisticated technique of psychiatric slave-catching. To further paraphrase, the National Alliance for the Modern Inquisition represents the interests of mental patients the same way the Ku Klux Klan represents the interests of black Americans. Get it up youse

  • NAMI is an acronym for the National Alliance for the Modern Inquisition.

  • You sound just like nami actually. Good luck with that.

  • what you are saying sounds great except that you are failing to realize that NAMI is a 12 step program. They don't support drug treatment they try to treat mental illness the same way you treat a drug addiction.

What kind of psychologists are you? I happen to be some one who is suffering with mental illness. I don't have behavioral problems that need treatment. The only treatment that helps me is medication. No matter how hard I try or how much will power I use my illness just wont go away.

  • many people think that when you are in dire need, NAMI will be aviable to help, especially in serious cases like my minor sons, who is has receive a prison sentence for a murder he is not responsible for. NAMI and the Advocacy groups and way more organizations that you would think would be there to assist in your fight for your child, NO, they will give you a link to states american bar association and direct you to their online store, the same with Tourettes Syndrome Org, Help bring back my son
