MendingEcho,
The city has included no funding for roads, have exceeded the budget (whether you agree with their tax policy or not or other funding mechanisms) & have to actually reduce funding for police, fire, parks & rec, etc despite the increase in urban pop growth & tax breaks to entities such as the Domain. There is mismanagement at every level. The council gives the developers dinero(tax-payer welfare) to build, & refuses to provide necessary infrastructure for its existing citizens.

Goldhelmriel,
I think the city is doing a great job at urbanizing austin. They are thinking GROWTH (unlike corpus which seems to be lost in time), and that's something the city needs along with rail. with a wonderful downtown, a capital next door, and the most dense student population after, it's bound to happen. at least they are doing it the correct way. Nevertheless, Austin will NEVER loose it's charm, no matter how many beautiful buildings emerge.

dude, c'mon!!!
Welcome to America, where they waste and then destroy what they've wasted.
No wonder their country has already lost. Even their dollar is worthless. I wonder how many dollars it took to build what they just blew up?

Before the dot com bust... the city of austin tried convinced a few high tech companies to actually locate downtown - a novel concept given AMD decided to go the opposite route and locate out in the hill country - austin has CSC and silcon labs downtown - intel was one of the other big high tech companies to opt for a downtown location. so then came the bust after Y2K... and construction stopped. all that was left was the shell of the building. for years it was like this...

It sure did. The demolition company stated that this was a deliberate thing, but most people did not believe them. Glad I was at this angle when I shot the video to capture the pop instead of the anticipated < < < B O O M > > >.
