This is the 2nd clip I have posted of fLipper at the Haight. This song is most likely called "Shine" although I have also seen it listed at "(I saw you(Shine)". Either way, it is a powerful song and it seems to be a very personal song to who ever wrote it. Bruno Desmartass who normally would be at bass for fLipper, takes the mic and Bruce puts on the bass. I felt like I was invading Bruno's privacy as I filmed this song as it became clear as the song went on that Bruno "went" to a "place" where few singers dare to go....he brought the lyrics to life and I felt the people in attendance were pretty stunned.
If you have a chance, find/buy/borrow a copy of "Flipper Live" (Target Video77-1980-81 and watch Will Shatter do this song at Kezar (appx 28 yrs ago), on that night Will stepped to the microphone almost tentatively but proceeded to also to go to that "place" as did the rest of the band, that particular song, at Kezar & at the Haight, exposes a myth that fLipper does not care about things.....they care plenty, take a look at the band after Bruno finishes the song....even a normally passive Ted Falconi can not hold back the smiling kudos for Bruno...I believe to date this is the last SF appearance by Bruno with fLipper.....

lyrics:
Turn away, turn away from the wall
Turn away, turn away from the wall
Face me now, Face me now
Show me, show me all your tears
Your pain, your pain makes me burn
It's my shame
It's my shame we both hurt
We both hurt
I've got to strip this flesh from my bones
I've got to hammer this wall with my hands
With my hands
And I saw you
I saw you shine
I was holding you
I saw your face. I saw our face as you heard my words
my words
And you left me. You left me to hold yourself
And I've got to strip this flesh from my bones
I've got to hammer this wall with my hands
with my hands
The lights have all gone out
The lights have all gone out
But I saw you
I saw you shine

  • The original lineup began splintering after a period of touring, and singer and core member Will Shatter died on December 9, 1987 of a drug overdose after forming A3I. replacement bass player John Dougherty died of a drug overdose. In 2002 Bruce Loose, using a cane to get around,...he looks all right here. HOLD OLD IS HE filmer pull back...

  • @BayAreaMusicLens look on wikipedia

    "(I Saw You) Shine" (Shatter) – 8:31

  • 1:46 is that bruce loose?

  • Vietnam war veteran Ted Falconi played a uniquely distorted style of guitar,

    Rachel Thoele

    original vocal WILL SHATTER

this is bruce loose right here isnt it?

  • It was Will.

  • I got a traumatic brain injury and technically shouldn't even be able to remember this, and so I believe this says how much they mean to me. I've begun to listen to less and less punk rock and more classic rock, but the Flipper will always hold a special place in my life. Bruno Desmartass rules!

  • I have loved this video for years. I used to get high from eating nutmeg the spice, and that's when Flipper became more important than God to me. A lot changed when I got in a horrible car crash from drinking and driving at 18 years old last January, but I have not lost my love for the Flipper.
