Hunger and child labour on the rise in Myanmar - 27 Sep 08

A year on from the Saffron revolution, the people of a once-prosperous nation are still mired in poverty.

According to the United Nations, the average daily pay in Myanmar is $0.67.

Al Jazeera's correspondent inside Myanmar assesses the situation in the country, a year after the military government stamped out pro-democracy protests.

It's China stupid! The USA doesn't have any influence on the burmese regime. China controls Burma.

Euroheat0022 , Nobody is asking that US does everything for Burma. But, US turns a blind eye to China's backing of Burmese Junta. Bush Jr. paid lip service mumbling some words to act a if he cares about Burma on his way to the Olympic Opening. Disgusting if you ask me. China should not have got the chance to host Olympic.

Myanmar is being discussed so much on Al Jazeria and in the Western media because of how rich Myanmar is in its natural resources. If it was not rich in natural resources Al Jazeria and the Western media would not even bring Myanmar up. The West has backed and supported and even put in power many cruel Dictators. In the so called Arab world many of the oil rich Arab country's are ruled by Dictators. When did Saudi Arabia ever hold an election? What i her is double standards and double talk!!!!

How Than Shwe family and his family should be punished?

Firstly, Than Shwe grandsons should be killed by hanging them or cut their throat in front of their family

Then Daw Kyaing Kyaing should be thrown from the top of Traders Hotels

Then the rest of the family should be killed one by one by cutting their head

Lastly, Than Shwe should be chopped every single part of him and let them give to dogs in front of him. He must be watched dogs are eating his body and balls

China is really the only influence that could maybe make a difference to help Burma , the U.S. can't be doing everything for every country. Not to mention if the U.S. even gave aid the military would just use it for themselves.
