I'm so sad to see your video on Northdown House. It belonged to my Great Grandfather James I. H Friend and goes back in my family history to when it was built. My grandmother spent first part of her childhood there. I would be devastated to see it turned into flats or left to rot!!!!

I see you got a mention in Private Eye this month Tony. Cool!
And in the same paragraph as Bob Geldof!
Good stuff. Keep up the good work.

It would make a nice hotel, as the grounds looks lovely as well. Or it could be turned into a school or college.
What will they do after that? Convert the Shell Grotto? They'll probably pull that apart next and turn it into office space.

This is a lovely building which we cant let be destroyed like the rest of Margate

potatoehead64 what tony is saying is we want to save this building not destroy it from the inside by putting a load of scum in it. You might as well just board it up. All your be doing is linking up the worst part of thanet (bottom of Cliftonville) with the second worst part (Millmead) making margate's no go area even bigger. What it needs is for the council to get off there lazy fat backsides get out of there offices and go and find this place and have a look round it.

Hi Tony
Northdown house is one of the few places in Cliftonville that currently doesn't look run down. I can't understand why the council wants to board this up, especially when they has spent well in my view in upgrading other areas of Cliftonville (well at least they made a start) like the building at the bottom of Surrey Road and the building opposite the Lido.
With the shortage of social housing in Thanet, it could at least provide some accommodation for those in need in Thanet.
The reason they wish to board this up is to minipulate public opinion in allowing them to do anything they want.
They have apparently stated that they will not allow anyone to use or hire this building so that they can tell us that its loss making.
Thanet council have their own agenda as do councillors and the local community don't count.
