2004 VW TDI 5 Speed DMF/Clutch noise.

You can see the longer start at the beginning.

When I press in the clutch it gets much louder. It got a lot louder just yesterday where I can hear it in the car.

  • Was this the stock clutch? I have an aftermarket stage 3 south bend cluth that has been doing the same thing.

  • Noticed this difference between clutch pressed and clutch released in neutral when the DMF i one of our cars failed.

  • Look at this bimmerfest. com/forums/showthread.php?p=6316691#post6316691

  • Thrust bearing maybe?

Mine made this noise (though not as bad) for about a year. Then under full throttle (in gear) started making other noises.

In the end, and with very little warning (about 3 drives after the noise came) my van refused to turn over. Flywheel had exploded. Luckily the gearbox survived with minor scoring but I do need new DMF, clutch, bearing etc. now
