Often referred to as "shrinky dinks," shrink plastic artwork is easy to create using your own images. In this video tutorial, Stephanie Scheetz shows you how to print your pictures on the special plastic surface, then place the media in an oven for magical transformation into beautiful jewelry. You even get to peer inside the oven as the transformation happens before your eyes. This is episode 5 of the ongoing Creative Output series on The Digital Story.

  • For you technical buffs, this video was recorded with a Canon 5D Mark II DSLR in full HD. I used a regular lav mic setup, but I did clean up the audio a bit in Adobe SoundBooth. We then edited the scenes and added transitions in iMovie 09. Finishing touches, such as the lower third titles were created in Boinx TV.

  • I like the oven scene where the plastic is shrinking in real time.

  • That is so awesome!! Super cool creation with the photos.

I saw this product at an online store and was hoping to see how this actually worked. Thanks so much for the video and also the information on where to get the product (even though I had already found it). I really appreciate a crafting video even more when the name of the product is given--too many of these crafting videos fail to this. Thanks!!
