American improv man who, like Bob Newhart, saw the appeal of putting his sketches onto vinyl. Many of which featured crazy 'phone conversations.
Still busy today as a teacher of comedy writing at the University of Southern California

  • Shelley is my absolute favorite comedian of all time. I first heard this when I was about 8, and it profoundly influenced how I tell stories. People think I'm funny and say, "Listen to Shelley!"

I wish someone would post "Franz Kafka on the Telephone."

  • From his album 'INside Shelley Berman" - one of the funniest comics of all time!!!! his riff on airlines and flying is the funniest 6 minutes I have ever heard. "We can land an HOUR ahead of schedule - if he puts it down in Grand Canyon!!"

  • @teenonator yes my brother got that joke

  • I was the one dislike!!!! I went to like it and got mouse-happy and clicked dislike by accident! so as it stands there are 52 likes and 0 dislikes!!! sorry guys! and sorry to the brilliant Shelley Berman...lol

  • I remember the days of listening to his records. It was the in thing to do....

  • "....and the airlines always have celebrities as their spokesperson, Will Rogers and Carole Lombard..."

  • yeah........but where is the all famous....the spec in the milk ?...I cant find it anywhere

  • "I can't help it if I'm God, call your mommy!"

"Don't wait 'til he grows up and makes an arbitrary decision!"

    This whole album was brilliant.

  • Yes! That's what I was looking for, "Franz kafka on the telephone". Please post it, someone.

  • Shelly Berman was an absolute genius. Even little kids could enjoy his humor. He was right up there with Jonathan Winters, Jack Benny, and Mort Saul.

  • Absolutely brilliant. I still have the old vinyls of Shelley Berman, love the 'Hold on' one, so clever, but he did a wonderful one about flying too. Hysterical!
